Cam Newton picked apart the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and then he headed to the podium with some incredible headgear.
Cam Newton has never been one to shy away from a fashion statement. On Sunday, Newton spent the first part of his afternoon shredding up the San Francisco 49ers defense. After the game, Newton took to the podium, where he showed off an interesting piece of headgear.
During the game, Newton had one of his best statistical games of his career, throwing for four touchdowns against a 49ers team that actually hung tough throughout. The Panthers ended up winning the game 46-27, as Newton threw for 353 yards in the game. He has star wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin back from missing last season with a torn ACL, and Newton connected with him for two of his four TD passes.
Let’s all take a moment and take in his hat selection for a moment.
For a man who strikes fear in the hearts of defensive coordinators everywhere, Newton looked downright silly in his straw hat on Sunday. At least he was not clamming up like he did after his team’s Super Bowl 50 loss. Whatever the reason was for buying that hat, he may want to hang that one up for the foreseeable future.

Newton has been the subject of some controversy already this season, as the Broncos made hit open season on his head in Week 1. The young signal-caller is bigger than most quarterbacks, and it seems like officials call him differently than they do to say, Tom Brady. He is great for the sport, and the league needs to start protecting him a bit more.
