When talking about the late Jose Fernandez, the Mets broadcasting team got a little choked up

Monday night was one of the more emotional nights in Major League Baseball history. For the first time since the untimely death of Jose Fernandez, the Miami Marlins took the field to take on the New York Mets. There were a lot of deserved tributes to one of the brightest young stars in the game that was taken from us way too soon, and a lot of remembering the late Marlins star.

At one point in the game, it was time for the Mets’ broadcasting team of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling to remember the young man that stole a lot of people’s hearts, and that was one of the more emotional moments of the evening.

As they were discussing Fernandez, the New York broadcasters got choked up on the air.

More and more in the past few days, you can really tell the impact this young man had on everyone. The game of baseball lost one of the best young stars that it had, and as you see stuff like this, that realization is brought to the forefront even more.

Both the Mets and the Marlins have done an amazing job on Monday night of honoring the memory of Fernandez. The Marlins are wearing Fernandez’s jersey for the game on Monday, and as they were circled around the mound to pay tribute, the entire Mets team came out to offer up their condolences.
