Cam Newton injury update: Panthers’ star being evaluated for concussion
Carolina Panthers quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton is being evaluated for a possible concussion.
On Sunday, the Panthers are falling to 1-3 against the Atlanta Falcons. However, the loss might not be the biggest problem facing Carolina. Down 34-10, the Panthers scored a touchdown and decided to go for a two-point conversion. On the play, Newton inexplicably jogged toward the goal line and was blasted by Deion Jones at the goal line.
While Newton did convert, he was clearly shaken on the play. After going off to the sideline for evaluation, he was ushered into the locker room. It remains unclear if Newton did or did not sustain a concussion. Any kind of injury to him would be crushing for the Panthers, who are already facing a significant climb out of the NFC dungeon.
Newton has struggled so far this season after winning the NFL MVP award in 2015 for his outstanding efforts. The Panthers went 15-1 last season and reached their second Super Bowl in franchise history, largely because Newton accounted for 45 touchdowns in the regular season.

Without Newton, Carolina would have to turn to Derek Anderson. Anderson is a veteran who made the Pro Bowl almost a decade ago with the Cleveland Browns, but has not done much since bouncing around.
