The Green Bay Packers moved to 3-1 with a Week 5 win over New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.

In a matchup of possible NFC contenders, the Green Bay Packers took care of the New York Giants by a score of score of 23-16 in NFL Week 5 action. This Sunday Night Football game left plenty to be desired, but cheeseheads in Wisconsin certainly went home happy.

Aaron Rodgers got the scoring started early for the Packers, immediately driving the ball down the field for an impressive 16-play, 75-yard drive to kick off the night. That drive was capped off by a two-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to wide receiver Jordy Nelson.

With a short field, the Giants were able to put together a field goal drive early in the second quarter, but Rodgers and company quickly answered. The Packers’ offense looked terrible after that opening drive touchdown in the first half, until they were forced to answer the Giants’ field goal drive.

Immediately after the Giants got on the board, Rodgers moved his offense down the field for a quick five-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Davante Adams was the touchdown recipient here, scoring on a 29-yard pass from Rodgers.

The teams traded field goals at the end of the half, as the Packers went into half with a 14-6 lead. From there on, the Giants were never really able to make it much of a game.

More on FanSided:

The Packers certainly played well enough to win, but it was not a dominant performance by any means. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers stepped up when his team needed him the most, but a couple of costly turnovers by the star QB put the Giants in position to score.

Unfortunately for the G-Men, Eli Manning and company simply were not able to capitalize on the short fields. There were many times in both the first and second half where Manning and the Giants’ offense received the ball around midfield, but they never made the most of their opportunities.

Manning was able to lead the Giants into the end zone late in this game, as they scored on an incredible back of the end zone catch by Odell Beckham. However, it proved to be too little too late by the team in New York.

These are both talented teams who can make plays on both sides of the ball, but the Packers are undoubtedly the more complete roster at the moment. The Giants’ lack of composure and consistency (especially offensively) really showed on Sunday night.

Highlights:

Three Stars

Packers Offensive Line:

The Green Bay Packers’ offensive line was incredible in this game. It is difficult to pin-point one player who particularly stood out, so let’s give the credit to them all. From left to right, David Bakhtiari, Lane Taylor, JC Tretter, TJ Lang and Bryan Bulaga were all incredible.

Rodgers had all day to throw, and holes were open in the rushing attack all night. Green Bay rushed for 147 yards as a team on 32 carries.

All of this came against a talented Giants’ defensive line who had been playing extremely well up until this game. The way this Packers’ offensive line dominated Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul and company was incredibly impressive.

Janoris Jenkins:

Almost nobody showed up to play for the Giants on Sunday night. However, cornerback Janoris Jenkins certainly did.

Jenkins played strong man-to-man defense, primarily lining up on wide receiver Jordy Nelson. He made big play after big play in this game, including come up with two interceptions on Rodgers.

Jenkins singlehandedly kept this game from being a huge blowout. He undoubtedly deserves praise for his play on Sunday night.

Randall Cobb:

I could have gone with many different Packers’ players in this spot here. Aaron Rodgers, Micah Hyde, Clay Matthews and Nick Perry could have all been under consideration. That being said, I decided to go with a guy who had been struggling.

Randall Cobb has not been as much of a weapon in the Packers’ passing attack as we are used to. That being said, he stepped up in a big way for the team against the Giants.

Cobb caught a game-high nine receptions on 10 targets for 108 yards. Cobb did not ever reach the end zone, but he always seemed to be in a position to make a play when the Packers needed him the most. His 13-yard catch-and-run on 3rd and 10 late in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for Green Bay.

Cobb is an extremely talented player who played at an incredibly high level on Sunday night.
