Carmelo Anthony took issue with SLAM Magazine’s placement of him in its “SLAM Top 50” NBA player ranking and took to Instagram—not a new concept for him—to voice his displeasure.

SLAM Magazine has been releasing its “Top 50” player rankings one player at a time, and it became apparent that New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony wasn’t expecting to see his name released so early.

Per this tweet from SLAM’s senior editor, Abe Schwadron, the magazine and website lost all credibility in the eyes of Anthony.

Was Anthony’s response warranted?

In Sports Illustrated’s “NBA’s Top 100 Player Rankings” compiled by Ben Golliver and Rob Mahoney, Melo was ranked at No. 24. Bleacher Report put him at No. 21.

Of the trio of rankings, Carmelo Anthony, was ranked the highest by the writers at SLAM, so it’s odd that’s the one he decided to comment on.

He averaged 21.8 points per game, the third-lowest mark of his career.

Social media presence

Anthony has a long history of taking to his Instagram comments to voice how he really feels.

When Instagram user freemangfx asked his followers if Carmelo Anthony was still an elite player, Anthony decided to slide in and answer himself.

Another time, Anthony roasted a fan who questioned his work ethic and motives for staying local to the Garden faithful.

"“Shows how little you know about me. Staying in NY shows that I do care. If I would have left, what would you have said then? ‘Oh, Melo’s wack for leaving. He turned his back on NY.’ FOH. You are stuck with me, buddy. Deal with it. If you want me gone, I’ll personally walk you into the front office so you can plead your case of the Knicks trading me. Hope you have bail money because they might have you arrested for Disturbing the Peace.”"

New York fans are known for being fickle, and Anthony has never wanted any part of the extreme negativity that comes with the Empire State’s fan base.

Anthony has morphed from the young, corn row sporting, talent he was in Denver into a slightly grumpier “Dad Melo” who hates singing on planes.

The list of Carmelo Anthony’s Instagram stardom goes on and on, but none will ever beat one of the athlete greatest tweets of all-time (warning, it’s NSFW).
