As Lane Kiffin walked out of Neyland Stadium, he gave his old school’s fans a bit of a tip of the visor.

Lane Kiffin’s history with Tennessee is short but plentiful. He coached there for the 2009 season and looked to rebuild the then-struggling program. However, when Pete Carroll left USC for the Seattle Seahawks, Kiffin bolted from Knoxville to Southern Cal with little notice. Multiple violations were left behind, similar to Carrol’s departure. It made the 41-year-old one of the most hated men in Tennessee.

Well, seven years later, Kiffin returned to the scene, but as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. He has held this title for the past two years, including winning a National Championship. To make matters worse for Tennessee, the Crimson Tide absolutely dominated them, 49-10. It made Nick Saban’s squad look like the legitimate No. 1 overall team, if that had ever been in doubt.

After the game, Kiffin went to walk through the tunnel and by the Tennessee fans. A few fans shouted things, but as he walked past them, he gave a bit of a visor flip and hand gesture. It was brief, but was there any meaning to it?

Who knows when Kiffin may be back in Knoxville. If he takes another head coaching job, though — like LSU’s– that may be soon. The Tigers top job will be filled after the season with Les Miles having been fired.

If not LSU, the Fresno State alumnus could land somewhere else. Dominoes still have to fall with coaches being fired, however. That won’t happen until the season ends in about six weeks.

So, Lane Kiffin’s time in Tennessee might not be remembered for anything more than controversy. Are there any positive takeaways from it, though, or things he might regret?
