After the Chicago Cubs won Game 6 of the NLCS to advance to the World Series, the fans outside of Wrigley Field went absolutely berserk

History was on the line on Saturday night for Game 6 of the 2016 NLCS. With the Chicago Cubs up 3-2 in the series over the Los Angeles Dodgers, they were 27 outs away from advancing to the World Series for the first time since 1945. All they had to do was get past Clayton Kershaw, which is of course not an easy task. However, the road to breaking curses and making history is rarely easy. And the Cubs showed that as they put forth an absolutely masterful performance in Game 6.

The bats were alive against one of the best pitchers in baseball in Kershaw, putting five runs on the board in as many innings. Even better, Chicago’s starter in Kyle Hendricks was lights out, pitching 7.1 innings of shutout baseball. When it was all said and done, the Cubs had blanked the Dodgers to the tune of 5-0. With Aroldis Chapman earning the final out, the club was finally—after 71 years—going to the World Series.

A ballpark can only hold so many people, though, even one like Wrigley Field. So naturally, an enormous crowd had gathered outside of the stadium to potential history happen. And when that moment came to fruition, the city of Chicago gathered outside Wrigley went utterly and completely nuts—and just kept going nuts:

The reaction was so loud, that one Twitter user could hear it from “blocks away:”

They deserve every bit of craziness that they let out in that moment. It’s been a full lifetime since Cubs fans of any age have experienced this moment. Now, Part 1 of the curse is broken.

It’s a mixture of elation, pure joy, and relief all at once coming over these fans. How can you describe a moment that’s so historic and a team that’s so lovable making it all happen? You really can’t. The best you can do is watch that crowd outside Wrigley fly the W of their own and go insane. That’s the embodiment of it.
