Kyle Schwarber may return sooner than expected since the Chicago Cubs are one game away from the World Series.

Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon revealed that the Cubs may receive yet another player for the World Series if they advance. Catcher Kyle Schwarber missed the entire regular season with a torn ACL and he has not made a playoff appearance for the Cubs either. However, Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat confirmed that the power-hitting catcher may return to the Cubs roster.

The Chicago Cubs find themselves in a familiar scenario once again, as they are one win away from advancing to the World Series. They will look to exorcise their 2003 National League Championship Series demons with a home win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs faced a minor scare when they fell into a 2-1 deficit against the Dodgers. The Cubs have risen to the challenge of winning on the road and won two games in a row at Dodger Stadium.

Schwarber was expected to instantly become one of the top catchers in baseball before his injury. The 23-year-old catcher burst onto the scene with 16 home runs in only 232 at-bats for the Cubs in 2015. He showed more promise for the Cubs with five homers in the postseason, as the Cubs advanced to the NLCS.

It remains to be seen whether Schwarber playing would be the right decision, though. Some Cubs fans are sure to be concerned about whether Schwarber should be thrust into action after missing extensive time. There may also be questions of whether Schwarber would disrupt team chemistry by returning. Willson Contreras stepping up behind the plate also enables the Cubs to not rush Schwarber back.

As dangerous as Schwarber may be, the Cubs may not want to risk the future of one of their most promising young players. However, FOX Sports reports that the Cubs may use him as a designated hitter to preserve his health.
