The Purdue Boilermakers were pure class in honoring the late Nebraska Cornhuskers punter Sam Foltz by giving them a honorary black No. 27 Purdue jersey.

The passing of former Nebraska Cornhuskers punter Sam Foltz has shaken the college football world. Foltz was an outstanding special teams player for the Cornhuskers, and following his untimely death, the undefeated No. 10 Cornhuskers are dedicating their 2016 college football season to him.

In just about every game that Nebraska plays, the Cornhuskers’ opponent has shown respect to the late Nebraska punter by honoring him in their own way. On Saturday, the rival Purdue Boilermakers presented the Nebraska special teamers with an honorary black No. 27 Purdue jersey.

The Boilermakers aren’t the first Power 5 team to offer Nebraska a jersey to honor the life of Foltz. What makes this tribute so profound is that the Boilermakers jersey was black. This was Purdue’s way of showing it is in mourning with Nebraska.

This was especially classy of Purdue, as the Boilermakers saw their head coach of the last three years Darrell Hazell get laid off after last weekend’s loss. Purdue may have its issues on the gridiron, but clearly have its priorities in order in paying its respects to Foltz.

Nebraska is the favorite to win the Big Ten West in 2016. The Cornhuskers are one of 11 undefeated teams in Division I football entering Week 8 of the 2016 college football season.

Obviously, the Cornhuskers will still have to play the rival Wisconsin Badgers, but Nebraska has a terrific shot at playing in the 2016 Big Ten Championship. If Nebraska runs the table this regular season, the Cornhuskers will surely meet the winner of Michigan/Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium with a shot at the College Football Playoff.
