Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo recorded the final out of the NLCS, and said afterwards he’s sleeping with the ball.

Chicago Cubs fans have been waiting 108 years for a World Series title, and 71 years for an appearance in the final. While they’re still four wins away from the World Series, they broke one of those droughts tonight by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.

It was a complete team performance. The offense chased Clayton Kershaw after five innings, Kyle Hendricks had his best outing of the playoffs, and the defense was outstanding as usual. On an historic night like this, you couldn’t have asked for anything more.

The final out came on a double play started by one of the Cubs’ playoff MVPs, Javier Baez. But first baseman Anthony Rizzo is on record for getting the final out in Game 6, which puts him in the history books. And afterwards, he had a post-game line for the ages:

The Cubs have three more days before the World Series starts up, but they should enjoy this victory as much as they can. At the very least, we know that Anthony Rizzo will, all while keeping traditional baseball superstitions intact.

The scene at Wrigley Field was truly a sight to behold. Seeing 90-year-old grandparents in tears and holding up their kids was a reminder of why we love the game so much. There are people who have waited their whole life for this moment, while others have died before they ever got to witness it.

This year’s World Series will be truly special, since it will be between the two teams with the longest drought in MLB history. It’s surreal to think that one of them will come to an end, but if this was any indication, it’s that no fanbase deserves it more than the Cubs.
