Addison Russell hits grand slam in World Series Game 6 (Video)
Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell smashed a grand slam to put his team up big against the Cleveland Indians in Game 6 of the World Series.
Addison Russell has been the hero of Game 6 for the Chicago Cubs against the Cleveland Indians thus far. After hitting a pop fly that turned into a double in the first inning, Russell was back at it again in the third inning. With the bases loaded and Josh Tomlin already chased, he dug in at the plate against Dan Ortero.
Ortero made a mistake pitch and Russell would make him pay almost immediately. He launched a shot to deep center that wound up getting over the wall and turned into a grand slam. The home run pushed the Cubs lead to 7-0 and the dugout absolutely lost their minds over the hit.
The Cubs came into Game 6 needing to do the impossible if they wanted to end the curse and win a World Series. To get to Game 7 they would have to get Game 6 and Russell did his best early to try and give his team their shot.
While his first shot should have been caught, there was no doubt about this one. It was the first grand slam in a World Series, since Paul Konerko hit one in 2005.
