The Chicago Cubs hang on to win their first World Series in 108 years with a nail biter against the Cleveland Indians.

In a wild game that included blown leads, tie games, 17-minute rain delays and extra innings, the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series against the Cleveland Indians, taking the series with a 8-7 win in Game 7.

What’s the best way to start Game 7 of the 2016 World Series? How about a home run from Dexter Fowler in the 1st inning? Cubs go up 1-0 after one at-bat.

Carlos Santana put the Indians on the board in the bottom of the 3rd when he sent a line drive single into right field, scoring Coco Crisp.

Things got interesting in the top of the 4th when the Cubs started a little rally. Addison Russell’s sacrifice fly drove in Kris Bryant, and then a Willson Contreras double brought in Ben Zobrist to make it 3-1 Cubs.

Javier Baez hit a rocket into right center field for a solo home run to make up for the two errors he committed earlier in the game. Anthony Rizzo belts a line drive to right field to bring in Bryant, and the Cubs led by 4.

Jon Lester came in for middle relief in the 5th inning, and his catcher David Ross came into the game with him in what will be the final game of his MLB career. After a wild pitch with Francisco Lindor at the plate, Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis came in to score, cutting the Cubs lead and making it 5-3 Chicago. Later on in the bottom of the 5th, David Ross hit a home run to bring the game to 6-3 Cubs.

The game wasn’t over yet. In the bottom of the 8th inning Brandon Guyer’s double play brought in Jose Ramirez to bring the Cubs within two. Then Rajai Davis came up and smacked a long ball to left field for a two run homer. That was Davis’s first home run since August 30th and the game was tied at 6.

As the game went into the 10th inning, the heavens opened up and the tarps came in. During the rain delay, people wondered how you could reschedule a World Series Game 7 in the 10th inning. Fortunately, the delay didn’t last too long, and they resumed the game. Ben Zobrist came up and hit a grounder for a double, scoring Albert Almora Jr. to go ahead 7-6. Migel Montero came up and singled into left field, bringing in Anthony Rizzo. The Cubs went up 8-6.

In the bottom of the 10th Rajai Davis singled into center field to score Brandon Guyer, making it a one run game but it wasn’t enough to catch the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs take the 2016 World Series with an 8-7 win against the Cleveland Indians in Game 7.
