Clemson isn’t wasting time in jumping out to a lead against Syracuse at home on Saturday afternoon. Check out Deshaun Watson’s dime to Deon Cain for six.

After the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings dropped during this past week, No. 2 Clemson didn’t want to make a bad first impression as the No. 2 in those rankings.

Clemson jumped out to a two-touchdown lead against unranked Syracuse on Saturday afternoon, and quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of the catalyst in the hot start.

Watson hasn’t taken the Orange lightly in the early going on Saturday and it showed a beautiful throw down the sideline for a long 65-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Deon Cain.

That Watson-to-Cain connection made it 16-0 early in the second quarter and it sent the Clemson crowd into a frenzy.

The Tigers have passed their main challenges of this season already in Louisville at home and Florida State in a barnburner last weekend in Tallahassee. Saturday’s game against Syracuse starts a soft stretch for Watson and the Tigers, who very well could run the table in the ACC for the second straight year.

It’s going to be easy for the Tigers to get into the College Football Playoff if Deshaun Watson keeps playing like he is against the Orange. He’s already 8-of-10 for 111 yards and the touchdown to Cain.

Assuming Watson and the Tigers handle their business on Saturday at home, they’ll have Pittsburgh at home, Wake Forest on the road and their annual end-of-the-season clash with in-state rival South Carolina to close out the regular season before competing in the ACC Championship Game in December.

If this is what the Clemson offense is going to look like down the stretch of the season, a Clemson-Alabama rematch may be on the horizon.
