Bobby Wood evened up the USMNT with Mexico

The USMNT started the second half off well with a quick equalizer against Mexico in 2018 World Cup qualifying action.

2018 World Cup qualifying continued for CONCACAF sides on Friday. In what has become its designated home game against Mexico, the USMNT looked to start the Hex strongly. The first half didn’t go as planned, but the hosts started the second half off strongly as Bobby Wood fired home the close-range shot from Jozy Altidore’s accurate pass from outside the box.

Wood’s goal was just what the USMNT needed to take the match’s momentum got the American Outlaws and other USA Soccer fans back into the match. This goal was created back in the midfield off a free kick to Wood making a great run into the box.

Despite battling injuries to his hamstring, Altidore has recovered fully. His fitness and confidence are clearly evident in Friday’s qualifying match. His confidence can be directly attributed to his time with Toronto FC due to regular playing time unlike when he played in the EPL.

After the goal, the USMNT controlled the match for the most part. The hosts created some dangerous chances but couldn’t capitalize. Michael Bradley had a chance to feed Wood on a 2v1 opportunity but elected to shoot instead of setting up the wide open teammate.

The USMNT have Mexico on the ropes in Columbus. Unfortunately, the score won’t end Dos a Cero. Yet, that won’t matter if the USMNT can secure three points. It’s important to win the home games and find a way to steal points on the road.

USMNT’s play in the second half has been better than the first half. It’s unknown what Klinsmann said during the break, but he’s an expert when it comes to making second-half adjustments. This is truly especially with who he elects to use his three subs on.
