Since he entered the NBA back in 2011, Tobias Harris has been sure to give back to less fortunate people. The belief that it was the right thing to do has never wavered in Harris, even in tough times. In fact, one of the most memorable moments so far in his career came when Harris found himself traded from the Orlando Magic to the Detroit Pistons last season and still made a scheduled talk with youth in Orlando.

So it should come as zero surprise that Harris is still doing great things. On Wednesday, the NBA released word that Harris has won the monthly NBA Community Assist award thanks to his mentorship.

As part of the award Harris was able to choose a charity to donate $10,00 to on his behalf. According to a press release for Feeding Children Everywhere, the cause Harris has chosen is feeding the hungry.

Feeding the hungry is just the newest thing Harris has worked on. First came his youth mentoring, which has continued in each of his stops. From there Harris branched out to help reading in schools. He also has worked with combating xenophobia through Seeds of Peace. The list seems never-ending and a quick look at Harris’ website shows how proud he is of each and every effort.

That is what makes this entire thing so cool. NBA players mostly do charitable work for no recognition. Many players have come from rough backgrounds so giving back to help others escape is something they feel compelled to do. But many of those players focus on one or two movements. While that is cool there is something special about what Harris is doing as well. There are plenty of issues to try to fix and Harris is doing all he can to do his part.

As for this effort, the $10,000 will give 40,000 meals to the hungry. While Feeding Children Everywhere started in Hati in 2010, it has since spread to 49 countries including the United States.

So if you were looking for another player to really like in the NBA, and there are plenty of them, Tobias Harris has certainly done his part. And whether you notice or not he isn’t likely to stop any time soon.
