The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a moving tribute to honor their late punter, Sam Foltz, on Senior Day.

Saturday, Nov. 19 would have been Senior Day for Nebraska Cornhuskers punter Sam Foltz. Unfortunately, he did not live to see the day. The punter was tragically killed in a single-car accident in July 2016 that also took the life of Mike Sadler, the punter for Michigan State. Despite not being there in body, Foltz’s spirit has been with the Huskers all season. So on what would’ve been his Senior Day, it was only fitting that Nebraska honor him.

Head coach Mike Riley had said earlier in the week that they had a special tribute planned for Foltz on Saturday ahead of their matchup with the Maryland Terrapins. The late punter’s parents were in attendance and would be honored on the field. However, the Cornhuskers had much more in store.

Before heading back to the locker room, Nebraska aired a tribute with Foltz’s teammates remembering the punter. As if that wasn’t emotional enough, the players stayed on the field on their way back to emotionally watch the video:

In addition to showing a tribute video during the pre-game, the rest of the Nebraska seniors brought tears to the eyes of everyone watching. As they walked onto the field to be recognized themselves, they all walked to the 27-yard line and placed roses on Foltz’s No. 27 jersey:

The solidarity in honoring and remembering Sam Foltz throughout the Big Ten has been astounding and touching. It’s undeniable the impact that he had on his teammates and opponents. He’s still missed to this day and his legacy in Nebraska clearly won’t soon be forgotten.
