Former LSU HC Les Miles congratulated Ed Orgeron on becoming LSU’s 33rd head coach in school history.

After being notified that he would lose his job early in the season, Les Miles went out without a fight. Joining him in the reconstruction at LSU was offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. That day, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva announced Ed Orgeron would become interim head coach. And though Orgeron faced the music of the media’s scrutiny throughout the season, he proved to Baton Rouge that he belongs in the family for the long run.

Though Miles couldn’t finish up his 12th season with LSU, he wasn’t bitter about the outcome. His replacement would rally the Tigers in their season finale against Texas A&M. And with that, the LSU Tigers approached their then-interim coach with a proposal: be a full-time, official head coach. The decision was officially made during a presser at noon during Rivalry Week. And it was an emotional one for Coach O, and rightfully so. Even Miles reached out, expressing his delight for the new LSU head coach:

That’s what sportsmanship’s all about. Miles might have lost his job to Orgeron, but he enlisted in some maturity to express his joy for Coach O. It’s not only about how gentlemanly Miles was about the Orgeron news, but the camaraderie that football can bring in at the right times.

Some were very skeptical about Orgeron’s placement at LSU. Tom Herman was coined as a favorite to take the head coach job. Instead, he’ll be alongside Texas in the Big 12 next season. With that, Orgeron still didn’t look like a lock. Following the press conference, though, Orgeron had made it clear that his heart remains loyal to LSU. And from here on out, rebuilding LSU with Louisiana-grown talent is his first step.

Miles, himself, needs some gainful employment. He hasn’t been doing many cameos since being let go by the university after their Week 4 loss. However, Miles could be a potential candidate for the Baylor job. Baylor’s interim head coach Jim Grobe is currently on a five-game losing streak that could reach six straight with their season finale next week at West Virginia.
