Indiana will dismiss Kevin Wilson as their head football coach, which has a lot of people asking — why?

In some pretty shocking news on Thursday afternoon, the Indiana Hoosiers will fire Kevin Wilson as their head football coach. The news shocked many because he was helping the Hoosiers enjoy the most success that they have in quite some time, as following a recent 6-6 campaign, they will be heading to a bowl game for the second consecutive season.

Indiana has called a news conference for Thursday night at approximately 6 p.m. ET where they will officially announce the dismissal, and potentially the reasoning behind it.

Now the latter part there is what has many people wondering. Why exactly would Indiana part ways with a man who seems to have this program headed in the right direction? Immediately, when you see a firing as perplexing as this, you wonder if it has to do with any off-field-issues.

Apparently, it might be just that. According to Mark Schlabach of ESPN, a few Indiana football players were recently questioned about the way they were treated by Wilson during his time there.

Should this unfortunately be true, then the firing of Wilson makes all the sense in the world. Universities have been trying to crack down on situations like this in recent years, and this might be just the latest case proving that.

Wilson was hired as the head football coach at Indiana in 2011, and prior to that, he served as an offensive assistant for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2002-2010. He won the Broyles Award in 2008 as the nation’s top assistant.

Right now all we have is the speculation regarding the mistreatment of players, but by the time Thursday ends, we should know the definitive reason for the firing of Kevin Wilson by Indiana.
