According to Jon Heyman, the Baltimore Orioles are showing interest in Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson.

The Baltimore Orioles are looking to upgrade their outfield because they probably won’t be able to re-sign Mark Trumbo. They’ve been looking for a more prototypical leadoff hitter as well. According to Jon Heyman, the Orioles are trying to kill two birds with one stone, as they are interested in trading for New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson.

While the O’s have shown some interest in fellow Mets outfielder Jay Bruce, Granderson makes far more sense for Baltimore. He’s much better defensively than Bruce. Not only that, Granderson has experience as a leadoff hitter. He can get on base at a very respectable rate. Moreover, Granderson is a hitter who could take advantage of the relatively short right field porch at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

If the Orioles trade for him, he will most likely play right field. Adam Jones occupies center field. Hyun-Soo Kim seems to be the starting left fielder, at least against righties. While a platoon is possible, Granderson has improved enough against lefties that he can hit them fairly well. He has experience in right field but not too much in left field.

However, what could Baltimore offer the Mets? Their prospect pool isn’t that impressive. Perhaps they could offer New York one of their relievers? Though if that’s the case, one has to imagine the Orioles would want more than just Granderson. One of their starting pitchers might make sense, but which one would the Mets want? Kevin Gausman is likely off limits and so is Chris Tilman. Dylan Bundy is likely too much for Granderson.

While he might be a great fit for the Orioles, Baltimore might not have what it takes to get him.
