It’s the battle of the Borussias, and USMNT stars, today in Dortmund. Both Dortmund and Monchengladbach will be unhappy with their current standing in the Bundesliga.
American international Christian Pulisic did not get on the field in Dortmund’s disappointing 2-1 loss away to Eintracht Frankfurt last Saturday; I wouldn’t count on that being the case today against Gladbach. The loss dropped BVB to seventh place, but only three points separate them and the aforementioned Frankfurt, who are currently in fourth place. A win today would put Dortmund well on their way to challenging for a Champions League spot.
The straights Gladbach find themselves in are considerably more dire: 16th place, 13 points, minus 6 goal difference, winless in their last six with three losses. It’s been a dismal start to the season for a team currently playing in the Champions League.
USMNT player Fabian Johnson continues to see the field for Gladbach, coming on as a sub in their 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim, and starting in their 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the Champions League on November 23. It goes without saying that Monchengladbach have to find a way to manufacture more goals if they hope to turn their Bundesliga season around.
