Lamar Jackson has been the best player in college football this season and should walk out with the 2016 Heisman Trophy.

From the moment the college football season kicked off, the talk has been all about Lamar Jackson. The Louisville quarterback stood out with his flashy play, passing ability and the elite use of his legs for a signal caller. A big win over Florida State in Week 3 put him on the map, and from there, the sky seemed to be the limit.

The rest of the college football season turned into the Lamar Jackson Show. Everyone wanted to see what he’d do next to upgrade his résumé for the 2016 Heisman Trophy. This included 400-plus yard performances, scoring touchdowns with ease and running all over his opponents. It made him into the nation’s best player and well deserving of the Heisman Trophy, if he wins it.

There shouldn’t be an issue with Jackson getting the votes needed to win. If a case needs to be made, though, here are five reasons why he should be awarded the Heisman.

5. 5,230 yards and 51 touchdowns

While Lamar Jackson may have cooled down in the final few games of the season, he still put up a ridiculous amount of yardage for most of the year. Throw in the 51 total touchdowns he had, making for some incredible stat lines.

From the moment the season began, Jackson put his name into the Heisman Trophy race. He started with 405 yards and eight total touchdowns against Charlotte, which was the first game of the year. Sure, that school isn’t anything close to good in football, but it became the start of an amazing season.

One week later, Jackson decided to go off for another 510 yards and five total touchdowns against Syracuse. This became his highest yardage total of the year and among the best in college football’s 2016 season.

Just two weeks later, the sophomore would have another 400-yard game against Marshall, which really started to put him in the Heisman hunt. This, along with the route of Florida State, got him some serious recognition that carried throughout the year.

Jackson would go on to have a handful of other 400-plus yard games, which eventually built his total to 5,230 total yards with 51 total touchdowns. These are incredible numbers that should carry plenty of weight heading into the Heisman Trophy voting.
