According to a report, Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has agreed to pay to land either Kenley Jansen or Aroldis Chapman.

Moves are finally being made in the MLB. While the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox made the big deal of the day involving Chris Sale, rumors have been flying ever since about who could be on the move next. The closer market is strong this year with Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman and they’re going to get paid by somebody. That somebody could end up being the Miami Marlins.

According to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is willing to pay to sign either reliever if his team is able to secure a deal with either one of them.

Loria has signed some players to some massive deals before with Miami. While he’s also then proceeded to trade some of those deals away quickly, he has shown that he will spend money if need be.

The Marlins willing to spend on either Jansen or Chapman could really help their cause in getting the deal that they want. With Chapman reportedly wanting a long deal that he hasn’t been able to get yet, he might get it from the Marlins.

While teams try to sign deals that benefit them, if the owner is willing to spend it might push the needle in the favor of one of these pitchers. Chapman would bring some necessary fire to the back of the Marlins bullpen, as would Jansen. The Marlins were close last year to being a playoff team before injuries ultimately derailed them. Getting a strong bullpen will get them closer.
