After accepting the head coaching job with the Baylor Bears, Matt Rhule took the time to show his appreciation to Temple fans

In a bit of shocking news to some on Tuesday, the Baylor Bears ended their search for a new full-time coach, and that search ended with now-former Temple Owls head coach Matt Rhule. While a surprise to some, it was certainly accepted as a nice hire by the Bears, especially considering all they were dealing with.

While Baylor fans are ecstatic with the hire, though, Temple fans are heartbroken over losing one of the most successful coaches they’ve ever had. Rhule turned this program around, and now they’ll have to start all over again under a new regime.

However, Rhule is not one to forget the people that appreciated him. On Wednesday, Rhule took out a nice ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer thanking all the Temple fans for the way he was treated during his four-year tenure.

An incredible gesture by an incredible coach, who should have some pretty nice success as the coach of the Bears in the near future.

Rhule took over a Temple football program in 2013 that was not in the best place, and while his record was just 28-23, the turnaround really was remarkable. They went to a bowl game last season, and just this past weekend, they took down the Navy Midshipmen to earn themselves the 2016 AAC Championship — a feat that no doubt helped him become a top candidate for the Baylor job within the last couple days.

Temple fans will indeed miss what Rhule brought to the table with their football program, but they’ll always have this nice ad to remember him by, and it’s always nice to know that you’re appreciated.
