Russell Westbrook ties Michael Jordan with seven straight triple-doubles
Russell Westbrook notches seven straight triple-doubles, ties Michael Jordan’s longstanding record set in 1989.
It has been 27 years since anyone has come close to Michael Jordan’s seven consecutive triple doubles. But on Friday night, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook tied that mark with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a loss to the Houston Rockets. Wilt Chamberlain set the overall record back in 1968 with nine consecutive triple-doubles, per ESPN.
Westbrook, who helped along a 13-point comeback late in the game, was in no mood to celebrate his achievement, instead focusing on missing a three-pointer in the final 30 seconds, a shot that would have tied the game.
Westbrook scored 12 points in the last eight minutes of the game, getting the team close to a winning rally. However, Westbrook was 8-of-25 from the floor with eight turnovers, showcasing a night that included both terrific highs and ugly lows.
