Theo Walcott equalized for Arsenal against Stoke, finishing a Hector Bellerin cross at the near post.

Arsenal got off to a decent start against Stoke at the Emirates, but found themselves 1-0 down after Granit Xhaka gave away a penalty when he elbowed Joe Allen in the box. Charlier Adam scored the spot kick.

The Gunners responded to the set back well, however, and created a series of chances before Theo Walcott’s equalizer. Walcott slipped in a neat finish at the near post following a Hector Bellerin cross.

Bellerin came on as a first-half substitute after center-back Shkodran Mustafi was forced off with an injury. Bellerin came on at right back for his first appearance in a month following an injury, while Gabriel, who had started the match at right back, shifted across to center back.

Arsenal’s equalizer was just the latest in an increasingly long list of signs they’re beginning to shed their old lightweight label. The Gunners made it through their customary November rough patch in second place in the league, and could go top with a two-goal win against Stoke.

They also beat Basel comprehensively midweek to ensure top spot in their Champions League group. In short, things are going very well for the Gunners. The response to the early set back against Stoke has been impressive so far, though Stoke retain a threat on the break.

The Potters could end the weekend as high as sixth with a win. They’ll need Tottenham to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow, but either way, after a disastrous start to the season, Mark Hughes’ side have looked very impressive in recent weeks.

With Marko Arnautovic, Xherdan Shaqiri and Joe Allen all playing well, they’ll be a difficult team to stop this season.
