The athletic director for the Louisville Cardinals has said one assistant coach did receive plays from now former Wake Forest announcer Tommy Elrod.

If you would have thought the weirdest story of the college football season would involve leaked plays and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, well congrats to you. As it turns out, one of the Deacs’ opponents this season is now admitting that they did in fact get some information from now former announcer Tommy Elrod.

The school fired Elrod, who once played quarterback for the team and served as an assistant, after it was found that he had leaked plays and information to opposing teams dating back to the 2014 season.

The first time a red flag came up about this was during Wake’s November 12 game against Louisville, when a sheet of plays was found inside the Cardinals’ stadium before the game. Louisville head coach Bobby Petirno has previously said he has no knowledge of that (and we all know how honest he is).

As it turns out, Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich is now saying that the team’s offensive coordinator, Lonnie Galloway, did in fact get “a few plays” from Elrod, according to a statement:

"“Lonnie received a call from Elrod during the week of the Wake Forest game…among the communication were a few plays that were sent and then shared with our defensive staff. None of the special plays were run during the course of the game. ”“Any other information that may have been discussed was nothing that our staff had not already seen while studying Wake Forest…”"

Galloway and Elrod previously worked together as assistant coaches at Wake Forest, where Elrod was let go when current head coach Dave Clawson took over before the 2014 season.

Plenty of people who played and coached with Elrod continue to wonder what would make someone turn on their alma mater in such a way. He is not responding to any media requests, so it may be a while (if ever) before we learn what was really going on.

Wake Forest will now prepare for their Military Bowl appearance against the Temple Owls, while Louisville will face the LSU Tigers in the Citrus Bowl on New Years Eve.
