The Miami Dolphins’ Walt Aikens gets a huge jump on the New York Jets’ Lachlan Edwards’ punt to block it for the big time scoop and score.

The Miami Dolphins were looking for a big play to distance themselves from the rival New York Jets on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium in Week 15. Miami definitely got that on this marvelous special teams play by Walt Aikens.

New York would be forced to punt. Aikens would get a quick start to time Lachlan Edwards’ punt attempt perfectly for the block. He would recover his own blocked punt and return it for a special teams score for the Dolphins. Miami would go up 20-10 on New York at the made PAT.

Miami entered Week 15’s rivalry game with the Jets at 8-5 on the season. The Dolphins have looked like a playoff-caliber team in the AFC since the middle of October. However, the Dolphins will likely have to go the rest of the way without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who suffered a knee injury in Week 14’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Miami does have one of the best backup quarterbacks in the business in Matt Moore. Moore has played well in his first start of 2016 for the Dolphins. However, Moore well need the occasional boost from his teammates to help guide Miami into the AFC Playoffs.

New York would, like clockwork, proceed to self-destruct after this blocked punt by Aikens. Quarterback Bryce Petty would throw an interception on the next New York offensive series. Moore would orchestrate another drive that ended in a touchdown for the Dolphins.
