The New York Jets demolish the Buffalo Bills 30-10 on Sunday afternoon in Week 17. New York finishes the season at 5-11, while Buffalo plummets to 7-9 to end the year.

The New York Jets would take a 10-3 lead into halftime over the Buffalo Bills. New York got on the board first via a Ryan Fitzpatrick touchdown pass to running back Bilal Powell in the second quarter. That scoring drive was set up by a marvelous 51-yard pass from Fitzpatrick to wide receiver Quincy Enunwa on the first play of that possession.

Buffalo would eventually get on the board thanks to a 11-play, 52-yard drive capped off by a Dan Carpenter made 34-yard field goal. This Carpenter kick came inside of the two-minute warning in the first half and Fitzpatrick had to execute a strong two-minute situation to get the Jets more points. He did on a strong 10-play, 63-yard drive that resulted in a made 30-yard field goal by kicker Nick Folk.

New York would extend its lead to 20-3 in the third quarter. Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel would cough up the football and the Jets would score on its next offensive possession. Fitzpatrick would find wide receiver Jalin Marshall for a six-yard touchdown pass to make it 17-3 Jets after the made Folk PAT. Folk would drain a 36-yard field goal to make it 20-3 Jets on New York’s next offensive possession to close out the third quarter.

Buffalo would then bench Manuel in favor of rookie quarterback Cardale Jones to start the fourth quarter. Jones would turn the football over on downs near the Jets’ red zone on his first drive as the Bills’ quarterback. His struggles in his NFL debut would continue, as Jones would throw an interception to Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. That Revis pick eventually set up another Folk field goal to make it 23-3 Jets.

Then something ridiculous happened. Buffalo would fail to recover the opening kickoff. New York would pounce on the football to make it 30-3 Jets. Jones would lead the Bills down the field for a garbage time touchdown to make it 30-10 Jets.

Overall, the Bills really didn’t want to play in this game. Maybe there were a few players that were bitter that Rex Ryan got fired last week. Interim head coach Anthony Lynn had a miserable day. Todd Bowles did just fine for his Jets in this victory for New York.

Three Stars

  1. Bilal Powell: Powell was everything for the Jets on the ground. He had 22 carries for 122 yards and three receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown.
  2. Ryan Fitzpatrick: Fitzpatrick played well on Sunday quarterbacking the Jets. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
  3. Sheldon Richardson: Richardson came up big on the Jets defense. He had six tackles, three solo, two for a loss of yardage, and a fumble recovery.
