The St. Louis Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in the 2017 Winter Classic. Here are all the highlights.

Entering 2017, being the road team in the Winter Classic has been a good thing. Road teams had won six of the eight Winter Classics. Now they have won six of nine after the St. Louis Blues beat the Chciago Blackhawks 4-1 behind three third period goals.

Chicago’s lone goal came from defenseman Michal Kempny. His goal came just 62 seconds into the game, the second fastest goal in Winter Classic history. Artemi Panarin and Duncan Keith picked up the assists.

Meanwhile, the Blues got a goal from Patrik Berglund in the second period to tie the game at one goal a piece. They got three third period goals to win the game 4-1. Two of those third period goals, including the game winner, came from Vladimir Tarasenko. Alex Steen got the other one.

The ice was in remarkably good condition, probably the best that has been seen in recent Winter Classics. Despite constant rain, the game had a pretty fast pace. Give credit to the Blues and the NHL for some excellent handling of the surface. Busch Stadium wasn’t built for hockey, but it still provided an excellent venue.

Highlights

Three Stars

  1. Vladimir Tarasenko: The Blues star forward had one of his best games in the 2017 Winter Classic. With two goals, including the game winner, he’s quickly emerging as one of the NHL’s most deadly offensive players.
  2. Jake Allen: Jake “The Snake” Allen has had a rough and inconsistent 2016-17 season, but he was great against the Blackhawks. He saved 22 of Chicago’s 23 shots on goal.
  3. Robby Fabri: The Blues forward got primary assists on both of Tarasenko’s third period goals.
