Tracy Claeys was fired by Minnesota on Tuesday, and the players are none too pleased with the news

Following a 2016 college football season that was overshadowed in controversy, the Minnesota Golden Gophers made the decision on Tuesday to fire head coach Tracy Claeys. Claeys spent just one full season as the head coach after taking over for the departing Jerry Kill during the season last year.

Now whenever a coaching change occurs, especially one so sudden as this, you always wonder how the members of the team feel about the decision. Well, Minnesota players were not at all shy to let their thoughts on the move known.

And they’re not too happy.

Although he won’t be staying in Minnesota for the new regime, senior quarterback Mitch Leidner was quick to throw his anger at the Golden Gophers administration.

Again, Leidner is departing from the program with the season now over, so not many will take his stance on the matter too much to heart.

But, what about the players that are sticking around for at least 2017? Well, one underclassman had this interesting tidbit to offer up.

Okay, now that response is a little more important, although we don’t know just how many members of the team share that sentiment.

Really, it should come as no surprise that the players have Claeys’ back like this. After all, when they decided to boycott the Holiday Bowl following the suspension of ten players and he immediately gave his blessing, it was crystal clear he had a strong relationship with his players.

In the end, though, they had better get used to playing for whomever takes over, because Claeys is not coming back.
