Calle Jarnkrok scored the game winner for the Nashville Predators with one second left in overtime.

There’s something about overtime and the Nashville Predators. Last year in the postseason, they were a part of the longest overtime game in NHL history. However, they have struggled during three-on-three overtime in the regular season. In fact, by scoring an overtime goal against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, Calle Jarnkrok is the first Predators forward to score in the regular season during three-on-three overtime. And he managed to do it with just one second left on the clock.

This is perhaps the best possible way to win in overtime, sprinting down the ice as hard as you can with the clock ticking down and your home crowd roaring. Nashville defenseman Roman Josi does a great job leading the breakout. Jarnkrok trails him perfectly and gets set up perfectly by his defenseman. Ryan Miller tried to make the save, but couldn’t get over in time.

It’s about time the Predators get some luck in overtime. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. With the win over the Canucks, the Predators now have 43 points in 41 games. This puts them just a point outside of a potential playoff spot, as the Los Angeles Kings have 44 points in the same number of games. While Vancouver has 44 points as well, they have also played in two more games than Nashville, giving them a slight advantage.

Entering the season, many saw the Predators as serious Stanley Cup contenders. Though they have been inconsistent, Nashville isn’t too far outside of a playoff spot. And once you get into the postseason, anything can happen. Meanwhile, the Canucks fall to 20-19-4.
