Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers uses a free play to his advantage, by hitting tight end Richard Rogers in stride for a 34-yard touchdown.

Early in the first quarter of their NFC Divisional Round game, the Green Bay Packers are able to take a 7-3 lead on a marvelous touchdown pass from Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to tight end Richard Rodgers.

Rodgers is about as good as it gets at using a free play to his advantage. The Cowboys defense was all sorts of confused on this play. Rodgers would bait the Cowboys secondary into thinking that he was going to hit wide receiver Davante Adams in stride.

He found the mismatch he wanted by tossing it to the tight end Rodgers who was covered by Cowboys inside linebacker Sean Lee. Rodgers made a great catch on this 34-yard gain for six points. The Mason Crosby field goal would make it 7-3 Packers.

Since starting the season in a 4-6 hole, the Packers have gone on to win their last seven games. That includes an NFC Wild Card win over the New York Giants last weekend in convincing fashion.

Rodgers is a serious NFL MVP candidate in 2016. While he hadn’t been as consistent as the Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan or the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the entire 2016 season, his second half was otherworldly.

As long as Rodgers continues to play at this high level, Green Bay can win its fifth Lombardi Trophy in franchise history. A second Super Bowl victory would cement Rodgers as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time. His talent is undeniable but has only had one deep playoff run in his career. That came in 2010 and Green Bay beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl.
