Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson has been named the PFWA Comeback Player of the Year after an impressive 2016 season.

It has been an impressive stretch of games for the Green Bay Packers as they prepare to take on the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game. Now, even more good news is rolling in for this team.

Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson was honored on Friday by the Pro Football Writers of America, who named the 31-year-old the NFL Comeback Player of the Year. After missing the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL, Nelson returned this season and made a huge impact in Green Bay’s offense, catching 97 passes for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Those 14 touchdowns were the most by any player in the NFL this year and were the most for Nelson since the 2011 season. The official PFWA Twitter account confirmed the announcement that Nelson had indeed won their Comeback Player of the Year award.

While this is a great honor for Nelson, the Packers wide receiver is probably more focused on getting ready to try and play in Sunday’s game against Atlanta. Nelson suffered broken ribs during the team’s NFC wild card matchup against the New York Giants, forcing him to miss the team’s game last week against the Dallas Cowboys.

Aaron Rodgers has been getting by without Nelson in the postseason, posting a 110.4 passer rating in the past two games. However, given the amount of weapons that the Falcons have on their offense, Rodgers will need every weapon that he can get to help his offense keep up with Atlanta’s.

The good news for Packers fans is that Nelson is making progress according to head coach Mike McCarthy. There’s still no guarantee whether or not Nelson will take the field on Sunday, but considering this is the playoffs, the Packers wide receiver will likely be doing whatever it takes so that he can play.
