When Frank Martin took over the South Carolina basketball program a few years back, he probably didn’t think he’d have this much success already. The Gamecocks look like one of the best teams in the SEC and his hard-nosed approach is starting to pay dividends.

The Gamecocks are off to a 15-3 start to the season and are coming off a big win over No. 19 Florida, narrowing the list of unbeatens in SEC play down to them and Kentucky. South Carolina looks like a legitimate threat to win the conference this season and beating Kentucky would further that notion.

After missing six games in the middle of the season, leading scorer Sindarius Thornwell has been playing some elite basketball. The senior guard is averaging 18.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and could give Kentucky nightmares.

Kentucky, on the other hand, has been one of the best teams in college basketball this season and that’s no surprise given the way John Calipari has been building the program over the past number of years. He has yet another elite recruiting class showing off on the court.

The Wildcats have one of the most dominant offenses in the country, led by freshman guard Malik Monk who is averaging 21.4 points while making about 41 percent of his 3s. De’Aaron Fox might be the best point guard in the country and this team is averaging 93 points per game.

Since losing to top rival Louisville, Kentucky has won six straight games and it now has a 16-2 record on the season. The Wildcats will look to assert their dominance in the SEC and prove that they are the only team worthy of national recognition from the conference.
