Le’Veon Bell injury update: Steelers RB leaves AFC Championship game
By Phil Naegely
Le’Veon Bell left the AFC Championship Game hurt against the New England Patriots. It appears the Pittsburgh Steelers is done for the night.
Le’Veon Bell has played a critical part to the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. The dynamic running back left with a groin injury during the first half before returning for a short time.
The Steelers public relations staff reported that Bell has a groin injury and is listed as questionable. However, it appears the running back’s night is mostly done. After getting tangled up in a play, he headed to the sideline and took off his helmet.
If Bell doesn’t return against the Patriots, then the Steelers’ chances of making the Super Bowl diminish greatly. They struggled against the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend with Bell off the field. Pittsburgh can’t afford to not score often. Bell brings another option to the Steeler’s attack. It’s a multi-dimensional attack that has succeeded partly due to Bell.
Pittsburgh trails 17-9 at the half and needs to make some adjustments to compete in the second half. It’s only a one-possession game, so anything is possible. However, Pittsburgh has a better chance to win this match with Bell in the game. Pittsburgh’s passing game and offense as a whole have struggled.
Running backs need the flexibility to turn from one side to the other at moment’s notice. Not being 100% in the lower body area makes it tough to be a dynamic offensive player. If the game remains close down the stretch, it wouldn’t be surprising if Bell returns to the game.
If the game remains close down the stretch, it wouldn’t be surprising if Bell returns to the game. However, it’s unknown how severe Bell’s groin injury is. For now, all that has been reported is that Bell is questionable to return. He briefly returned but left the field after only one play.
