Every season there are a handful of NBA veterans who attempt a pro comeback via the D-League. Last season, the league had guys like Cartier Martin, Ronnie Brewer, Ryan Gomes, Baron Davis and Dahntay Jones auditioning for NBA benches. Jones earned his spot with the Cleveland Cavaliers and appeared in 15 playoff games on their road to the 2016 NBA Championship.

Recently a well-known name in Ben Gordon signed with the league and was ultimately picked up by the Texas Legends (Dallas Mavericks’ affiliate) who also have employed former NBA players DeJuan Blair, Tony Wroten, Quincy Acy and Gary Neal at some point this season!

The D-League is a family-friendly environment where fans — usually in cities without an NBA team — get to sometimes see NBA talent grace their courts. In this instance, it’s a past gunner who played 11 seasons in the NBA between Chicago, Detroit, Charlotte and Orlando with his best days coming in his first five seasons with the Bulls.

A lot of teams have a “fan of the game” who gets to take a picture with a player who had a big game that night. Gordon made his debut for the Legends Friday night finishing with 14 points (6-of-19 from the field), 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Unfortunately, the team lost, but Gordon was able to make one lucky kid’s night after the game.

Win some, lose some but either way Ben Gordon is a damn rock star now and there’s no other explanation.

Remember in Zoolander when the old hand model had his prized hand encased in glass? That fate is now owned by this kid who will surely show up to school Monday with an air-tight glass encasement around his newly-signed arm. Or maybe his parents are really cool and will let him get the signature tattooed? Either way, Gordon passed his team initiation and is now a true Legend.
