The NHL accidentally screwed up their congratulatory tweet for Patrick Marleau scoring his 500th goal with a video of Patrick Kane.

Recently, the NHL has finally been getting far more active on social media. Their official Twitter account is mostly jokes so bad even your dad wouldn’t tell them and highlights. The league also uses their social media accounts to congratulate players on highlights. It’s virtually impossible to screw up highlights, right? Not for the NHL, apparently. After Patrick Marleau scored his 500th career goal late on Thursday night, they tried to congratulate him on Friday morning.

There’s just one tiny issue. The league congratulated someone named Patrick, but it wasn’t Marleau. Instead, they sent out a gif of Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane. To be fair, they have the same first name, so maybe a mixup occurred. The social media person immediately deleted the tweet, but nothing is ever truly deleted from the internet. Someone found this out the hard way.

Way to ruin a pretty cool moment for Marleau, NHL. Some poor intern is probably looking for a new job right now. Marleau became the 45th player in the league’s history to reach the milestone. He’s been underrated for most of his career and has been a huge part of their success as of late, along with fellow old man Joe Thornton.

Here’s a non-alternative facts highlight of the Sharks forward’s 500th career goal.

Of the 45 players with at least 500 goals, Marleau took the second longest time to reach it (1,463 games). Only Hall of Fame center Ron Francis (1,533 games) took longer to reach the milestone. Through 52 games this season, Marleau has 28 points (19 goals and nine assists). With his next goal, he’ll have 16 seasons with at least 20 goals scored.
