The veteran WR sees no way Gang Green parts ways with him this offseason.

Anybody who follows the NFL closely understands that at the end of the day, it’s a business. Often we see teams part ways with talents just to save some bucks when it comes to preserving cap space. Speculation amongst the New York Jets is that WR Brandon Marshall could wind up being one of those players this spring, although he doesn’t see it that way. Referring to the organization: “They haven’t said anything otherwise. There was no indication that they don’t want me back” (NJ.com).

This sounds like a simple and confident answer coming from Marshall, but who knows what the front office’s true intentions really are. Owed $7.5 million in 2017, the Jets are projected to be in the red and over the cap. They’ll need to make moves somewhere, and somebody like Marshall might just be one of those tough business decisions. Yet, for an offense that was rather pathetic this season, losing a weapon like No. 15 could prove to be detrimental. After hitting it off with Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2015 with 1,502 yards and 14 touchdowns, Marshall saw his numbers decline this past fall. The 11-year pro still managed about 800 yards and three scores.

The ticker behind the money owed to Marshall in 2017 is that it is not guaranteed. This means the Jets could say goodbye without any dead money repercussions. In the past, Marshall has shown frustration with poor performances from his teams. It’s nice to see him staying loyal to the Jets right now, but it is hard to accept the fact he is content playing for a bottom feeder. At this stage of his career, I am sure Marshall would love to contribute to a contender who would be playing into January. Regardless, for now, he has no plans of going anywhere.
