After the NCAA’s conclusion of an investigation into the Ole Miss football program, parting ways with head coach Hugh Freeze is necessary for both parties.

A bombshell has dropped in college football on Wednesday. Ole Miss has officially announced that they are placing a self-imposed one-year postseason ban on their football program after an NCAA investigation into boosters giving financial assistance to players has concluded. The Rebels will not be playing football once the regular season has concluded next year. That leaves speculation about the future of head coach Hugh Freeze.

Freeze was featured in the video of the announcement of the ban. With the investigation having concluded, all the facts will be known soon of what went down with the program. Freeze will certainly get his opportunity to have his say.

Things really fired up again after the incident at last year’s NFL Draft that saw Laremy Tunsil have private messages of his leaked during the event. This of course sent red flags flying and it was an embarrassing night for the program and for Tunsil. Bruce Feldman notes however, that these findings do not stem from what happened with Tunsil on Draft night.

The best thing the Rebels can do right now is move on from Freeze. Things are likely to get a lot worse once the NCAA hands out a punishment. Starting fresh could be exactly the right thing to do in this instance.

They need to stop the bleeding and not do anything that could end up making them look worse in the process. It could very well end up being the best thing for both parties. Depending upon what the investigation concludes on Freeze, he might be better off getting to start fresh somewhere else as well.

This is not the first case like this in the history of the NCAA and it probably won’t be the last. However, we have seen time and time again how these situations end up and the penalties that end up being placed upon a program. For both Freeze and the Rebels, a parting of ways might be the right move for both of their futures.
