The latest college basketball AP Poll is out, so how far did the Gonzaga Bulldogs plummet after their first loss of the season?

The Gonzaga Bulldogs were having a season for the ages, but late Saturday evening that all came crumbling down. The Zags’ dream for an undefeated season was blown to bits at home by none other than the BYU Cougars, not exactly world-beaters of the West Coast Conference.

Immediately following the loss, of course, everyone started speculating just how far the No. 1 team in the nation would fall in the polls. Well Monday is here and we have an answer to that question with the release of the latest AP Poll.

Here is a look at how the new Top 10 played out. You can view the full Top 25 rankings here.

  1. Kansas
  2. Villanova
  3. UCLA
  4. Gonzaga
  5. North Carolina
  6. Oregon
  7. Arizona
  8. Louisville
  9. Kentucky
  10. West Virginia

All things considered, dropping just down to No. 4 after the loss isn’t all that bad for the Zags. As the No. 1 team in the country, there were still some folks wondering just how good this team is, which is something that will always happen to them playing in the West Coast Conference. Dropping just three spots shows that this team is more respected –as they should be — than some give them credit for.

The new No. 1 team in the nation is the Kansas Jayhawks, who just last week clinched their 13th consecutive Big 12 regular season title. This is one of the most prolific Jayhawks teams in recent memory and much deserving of the new top ranking they boast.

It’s been a crazy college basketball season thus far, and there’s still much more to come with the end of the regular season and conference tournaments right on the horizon. How much will the AP Poll change in the coming weeks will be interesting to watch.
