Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens in a shade over 20 seconds at WWE Fastlane to win the Universal Championship, which means his match at WrestleMania 33 vs. Brock Lesnar is now a title match.

So, Goldberg’s going to WrestleMania 33 as WWE Universal Champion.

Yeah, it’s weird. It can be explained, but it’s still weird. The entire Fastlane pay-per-view can be explained, but it’s all odd and weird and strange.

In the main event of WWE Fastlane on Sunday night, Kevin Owens defended the Universal title against Goldberg. Owens attempted to play a few mind games with the No. 1 contender, leaving the ring on numerous occasions before the bell rang to begin the match.

As Owens finally appeared ready to go, this guy showed up.

Chris Jericho, the former best friend of Kevin Owens, arrived right after the bell rang to start the match, which provided all the distraction the challenger needed.

Soon after, Goldberg drilled a distracted Owens with the famous Spear/Jackhammer combination to end Owens’ 188-day reign as the champion of the entire universe, and marked Goldberg’s first title victory in WWE in almost 14 years.

Goldberg had already agreed to face Brock Lesnar one more time at WrestleMania 33, but with his victory on Sunday night, the WrestleMania XX rematch will now be for the Universal Championship (in what many would probably assume as the main event of the show).

Lesnar hasn’t wrestled since being eliminated by Goldberg in the Royal Rumble match, and with the loss in less than 90 seconds back at Survivor Series, The Beast Incarnate now has Goldberg and the Universal Championship on his brain heading into WrestleMania.

As for Goldberg, WrestleMania 33 will be his first since his victory over Lesnar at Madison Square Garden 13 years ago.

28 days from now, Goldberg is going to defend Raw’s world title against Brock Lesnar.

What a time.
