Tim Tebow strikes out in first MLB spring training at bat
Tim Tebow, the former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner turned-professional baseball player, made his Major League spring training debut Wednesday.
Tim Tebow has done some great things in his life, and he has now appeared in a Major League Baseball game. Sure, it was just spring training, but the former quarterback made his debut for the New York Mets Wednesday at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Wearing jersey number No. 97, Tebow got his first at bat against reigning Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello in the bottom of the third inning. The left-handed Tebow struck out looking on four pitches — including a controversial third strike that appeared to be off the plate.

Tebow was slotted into the lineup in the eighth spot as the designated hitter. It was the first official at bat for the 29-year old former QB since he hit .194 with 20 strikeouts in 19 games in the Arizona Fall League.
As announcer Ron Darling commented on the SNY broadcast, it was the first time a reigning Cy Young winner faced a Heisman Trophy winner since Frank Viola squared off against Bo Jackson in 1989.
