Despite a season-ending three-game losing streak, the Detroit Lions snuck into the NFL playoffs in 2016. How does the team’s 2017 stack up?

Despite a season-ending three-game losing streak, the Detroit Lions still managed to sneak into the playoffs with a 9-7 mark in 2016. But the franchise’s postseason woes continued with a 26-6 loss to the Seahawks in the Pacific Northwest. The club from the Motor City hasn’t posted a playoff victory since 1991.

Of course, it is also worth noting that the aforementioned skid included setbacks to the postseason-bound New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, respectively. The latter is once again on the 2017 slate per usual, as are the Giants. The team will host the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons and 2016 AFC North winner Pittsburgh Steelers.

These are the home and away opponents this season:

Home: Green Bay, Minnesota, Chicago, Atlanta, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Arizona

Away: Green Bay, Minnesota, Chicago, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Cincinnati, New York Giants

Here is how the complete schedule, week-by-week, lays out (updated upon release):

This is a club that was very aggressive this offseason. The additions of tackle Ricky Wagner and guard T.J. Lang are great news for the offensive line. Cornelius Washington, Akeem Spence and Jordan Hill add experience and depth to the defensive front. The team has done a solid job adding talent within both trenches.

The Detroit Lions have reached the postseason two of the last three years. But the franchise still hasn’t captured a division title since walking away with the NFC Central crown back in 1993. Is this the year they rise up and make some real noise when it comes to postseason contention?
