Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was asked if he saw similarities in himself with Charles Barkley, he quickly shut those remarks down.

Draymond Green has been compared to Charles Barkley a few times in the past. They have mostly been compared due to their outspoken personalities. ESPN’s Chris Haynes wrote about the similarities between Green and the Hall of Famer, which the Golden State Warriors star quickly refutes.

"“Hell no,” Green told Haynes when asked if he’s the new school Barkley. “I’m the modern-day Draymond Green. F— no.”"

Green said he learned the art of trash talking growing up in Saginaw, Michigan and this was well before he knew about Barkley and his frequent trash talking on and off the court. Green, however, did acknowledge that the only influences he took from Barkley were on the court, not what he did off of it. Green explained it by saying, “He’s a great player, but as I got older, I watched his game because I knew he was undersized and the things that he could do, I tried to add some of that stuff to my game.”

There are quite a few similarities between them on the court.

Both Green and Barkley played the same position at power forward, and both are considered undersized for the position. However, they both did not let their size hold them back as they both excelled at scoring, rebounding and being an elite defender despite their height. They both also excel at passing from their position, which is not usually known to be able to pass well.

Barkley was able to use his personality to land a job as a well-known analyst for TNT. Green has said he might want to pursue a similar path after his playing days come to an end. But that’s not for a long time as he’s in the prime of his career and trying to add another championship ring, something Barkley was never able to accomplish.
