Watch Law & Order: SVU season 18, episode 19 online
Law & Order: SVU gets controversial this week mixing crime and religion. Here’s how you can watch season 18, episode 19 live, on TV and online.
The detectives of NBC‘s Law & Order: SVU are no strangers to controversy, but this week’s episode may particularly raise some eyebrows because of what it’s using as its premise.
Season 18, episode 19 is called “Conversion” and involves a woman being raped by someone within her church group. Any time you mix crime and religion is bound to be sensitive, but SVU is taking it a step further as ADA Rafael Barba (Raul Esparza) finds himself having to argue that freedom of religion doesn’t provide the freedom to commit rape.
So is the accused hiding behind the First Amendment? Are we about to see a less than flattering portrayal of a church group? This episode will certainly give audiences something to talk about, if not make them a little uncomfortable. But Lt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her team have always run right at the toughest of cases, and “Conversion” would seem to be no exception to that unwritten rule as SVU nears the conclusion of its eighteenth season.
Here’s how NBC officially describes the episode:
"When a young woman is raped by a member of her church group, Barba must argue that the First Amendment doesn’t entitle a person to break the law."
