Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas will not play the rest of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers due to a hip strain.

Things are not going very well for the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals. Despite being at home in Game 2, the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers absolutely throttled the Celtics in the first half, 72-31.

To make matters worse, Boston’s best player in starting point guard Isaiah Thomas will not play the rest of Game 2. He has been taken out of the game due to a hip strain. He finished with two points on 0-6 shooting in 17 minutes of action.

Thomas had been everything for the Celtics this season. Though he is not an MVP finalist, he made his second NBA All-Star team and earned All-NBA second team this season. Boston had the best record in the Eastern Conference this year, but that has not transitioned into much success against the Cavaliers in the conference finals.

Pulling him out of the game early in the second half may have been done so that Boston can be better prepared for Game 3 in Cleveland on Sunday night. Boston is not winning Game 2, as the Celtics have been down by over 40 points in this game.

However, Boston did drop its first two games at home to the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Celtics may have won that best-of-seven series in six games, but it would take a Bostonian miracle to win the East this May.
