Due to a Grade 1 strain to his hamstring, the Los Angeles Dodgers had to place Justin Turner on the 10-day disabled list Friday.

After trying to score Thursday, Turner showed obvious discomfort in his right leg. He had to leave the game in the seventh inning. Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts thought that Turner may have tore the muscle off the bone, according to the LA Times.

The 32-year-old pulled up rounding third base and hobbled home before being tagged out following a throw from the outfield. The Dodgers still won the game 7-2 over the Miami Marlins.

Turner had an MRI Friday that revealed the strain.

Following the announcement by the Dodgers, Turner made it clear that he doesn’t want to rush back to playing:

"“We’re just going to play it by ear, and see how it goes from day to day. We’ll make sure we get it to 100 percent before we try to do anything else.”"

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled outfielder Brett Eibner from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Turner suffered a similar injury in 2014, which left him sidelined for 15 days. Roberts hoped that Turner would be back in “a couple of weeks,” according to ESPN.

The loss of the third baseman is a devastating blow to a team in a playoff race against the Colorado Rockies where every game matters. As of Friday, Turner was hitting .379, the best in the major leagues. Additionally, he has a .946 on-base-percentage. He is tied for the National League lead in hits and is third in OBP.

Roberts realizes that losing Turner is “a big blow” to the team

Turner isn’t the first player the Dodgers have lost this season. Andre Ethier has yet to play this season and Logan Forsythe last played in April. However, if the Dodgers can get Turner back in less than two weeks, they should be able to contend admirably down the stretch.
