If you’re watching the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, you probably want to know how to make the official drink, the Black-Eyed Susan.

As you watch the 2017 Preakness Stakes Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. ET in Baltimore, Maryland, you can now get closer to the event with the official drink of the 142nd running of the Preakness.

Here is the recipe for a Black-Eyed Susan, one of the Preakness’s oldest traditions:

  • 1 part Makers Mark Bourbon
  • 1 part DeKuyper Peachtree
  • 1 part Effen Vodka
  • 2 parts orange juice
  • 2 parts sour mix

The Preakness recommends shaking the cocktail well and pouring it over ice in a trademark Preakness glass. Even if you aren’t the glass collecting type, this drink sounds delicious. Garnish it with cherry and orange and enjoy.

It’s a delicious concoction that pairs perfectly with an afternoon of horse racing and relaxation. Drinking and gambling have a long history of romance, so horse racing is an ideal home for both. The Black-Eyed Susan is the perfect cocktail for an East Coast race, perfect for a Saturday afternoon, and perfect for a couple refills if your bet goes South.

In addition to this cocktail and Maryland’s state flower, the Black-Eyed Susan has also been adopted as the namesake for Friday afternoon’s filly race, the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. This year, the long shot Actress and her jockey Nik Juarez won the race in a photo finish. The payout was $250,000 for the winning filly and her team.

In addition to sipping on this cocktail, tune in to NBC on Saturday, May 20 to watch the 2017 Preakness Stakes.  Pre-race coverage begins at 5 p.m. ET and the race itself will start at 6:30 p.m. It is also available to stream online at NBC Sports.

Always Dreaming currently sits at 4/5 odds, the best in the field, after winning the Kentucky Derby. In the next step toward a Triple Crown, the colt drew the fourth post on Wednesday and will start there tomorrow for the 1.2-mile race, as you sip your Black-Eyed Susan and pray that your bet pays out.
