Charles Barkley would rather watch hockey than the NBA Playoffs.

The Eastern Conference Finals of the 2017 NBA Playoffs between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics hasn’t been too exciting. It appears Cleveland, barring a huge comeback by Boston, will be going to the NBA Finals. However, the same cannot be said for the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. That series between the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins is in Game 7. Charles Barkley has seen the light and would rather watch hockey than basketball.

Barkley gets a lot of heat for his comments. But honestly, who can blame him? The Cavaliers are embarrassing the Celtics. They were lucky as heck to even win Game 3. It should have been a sweep. Meanwhile, the Senators and Penguins have been going back and forth at each other for seven games. Entering the final five minutes of regular in the series, Pittsburgh and Ottawa are tied at 2. It’s been one heck of a series. From the looks of it, overtime seems to be inevitable. That would be a very fitting end to an outstanding series.

With all due respect to the Celtics, they aren’t on the same level as the Cavaliers. They weren’t even when Isaiah Thomas was healthy. With him out, the Cavaliers are the better team and it’s not close. Assuming Cleveland wins, they will face the Golden State Warriors. This would be the third straight year with the NBA Finals featuring the two teams.

Barkley is usually wrong and shouldn’t get the benefit of the doubt for anything at this point. But this is a rare case of him being completely correct in his analysis. You can’t blame Barkley for wanting to watch hockey over basketball considering how different the two conference finals series have been.
