Arsenal topped rival Chelsea in the 2017 FA Cup Final on Saturday, and were ecstatic to lift the trophy

The Premier League season was quite the different experience for rivals Arsenal and Chelsea. While the latter were running away with the league for much of the year, the former struggled with horrid inconsistency. So much so that fans of the Gunners were incessantly calling for skipper Arsene Wenger’s job. However, that talk lessened on Saturday with the 2017 FA Cup Final.

Just five minutes into the match, another playing of the London Derby, Arsenal struck — albeit in controversial fashion. The always dangerous Alexis Sanchez deflected an attempted clearance. He at least came close to a handball in doing so, but the controversy didn’t stop there. Aaron Ramsey was well offside and made a move to the ball. However, it was Sanchez that made the touch to put it into the net, but there was also no call for interference.

Regardless of that, the Gunners went up 1-0 and seemed to have a victory secured in the second half when Victor Moses was given his second yellow and sent off. However, the drama of a tie was short-lived as Arsenal answered with a beautiful quick buildup and finish from Ramsey to go back ahead, 2-1.

With Chelsea playing with 10 men, it was easy riding for Wenger’s group from there. They truthfully had just as many looks as their rivals to end the match, but they remained at 2-1 ahead when the final whistle blew.

After such a tumultuous season, the ecstasy and joy as Arsenal hoisted the FA Cup Trophy was more than evident:

It may only stifle the calls for Wenger’s job a bit, but it’ll do for now.

Ultimately, the FA Cup win for Arsenal is obviously something to hang their hats on. At the same time, however, it’s also frustrating. This is the level they have the talent to always play at, yet they fail to so often. Perhaps the goal — once again — should be to find this form with consistency in the 2017-18 campaign.
